Urban David Pond, 79, of Jonestown, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, at the WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon.

He was the husband of Norma R. (Bennett) Pond, to whom he would have been married 53 years on Feb. 3, 2021.

Born in Clarksville, NH on Apr. 28, 1941, he was the son of the late David and Beulah (Shatney) Pond.

Urban was a member of Myerstown Baptist Church, where he was active with the Helping Hands ministry and various other church ministries. He was a combat engineer for the U.S. Army for 27 years, having served various tours, including Vietnam, Germany, and Korea. He retired from Ft. Indiantown Gap where he served as the post-Sergeant Major. Urban enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, and helping others in his community.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Ransey R. Hill, husband of Thomas Weeks, of Campton, NH, Jeffrey A., husband of Darla Pond, of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Hannah R., Abigail R., Sarah C., Sadie E., Ivana C., Elijah D., and Levi U.; a great-granddaughter, Mavis E.; a sister, Aline, wife of Arthur Pond, of Myerstown; a brother, Roger, husband of Dixie Pond, of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Viger; and a brother, William Pond.

Services and inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.
