Walter J. Funk, 96, of Annville, PA, died Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Lebanon Valley Home of United Church of Christ.

He was the widower of Betty J. (Yiengst) Funk, who died in 2018. They were married 68 years.

Born in Cleona, PA, on October 2, 1927, Walter was a son of the late Arthur B. and Lucy (Witman) Funk.

Walter retired after 40 years, as a contractor, for Arthur Funk & Sons. After retirement, he continued working for Woodland Contractors and later ran storage garages in Cleona.

Walter was an active member at Avon Zion United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees and as a Sunday School Superintendent for five years. He was a member of the South Lebanon Lion’s Club and served as a PA District Governor from 1984-1985.

Walter was very proud of the churches, homes, and assorted buildings he constructed across Lebanon and western Berks counties. He enjoyed having tools in his hands, clearing snow, and driving his backhoe and forklift. He especially loved to travel with his wife, Betty. They visited almost all 50 states and parts of Canada.

Walter is survived by a daughter, Linda, wife of Calvin Nicholson; son, Larry Funk; grandchildren, Meagan Wright, Jared Nicholson, & Bridget Nicholson; great grandson, Dylan Nicholson; sister, Dorothy West; & several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by, a sister, Geraldine DeMars; brothers, Henry, Richard, Wayne, Herman, infants Robert and Harry.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd, 1500 Quentin Road, Lebanon, PA, 17042. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Zion “Goshert’s” UCC Cemetery, Lebanon, PA.

Arrangements were entrusted to Grose Funeral Home, Inc., Myerstown, PA.
