William A. Whitman, 71, of Palmyra, passed away on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, at home. He was the husband of Judith A. (Gross) Whitman. Born in Lebanon on Jan. 3, 1949, William was the son of the late William J. Whitman and Eleanor (Yingst) Sabo.
William was a devoted husband and father who loved his grandchildren with all his heart. His pastimes included fishing, golfing, and playing poker. He played softball as a child and continued well into his 30’s. Once loyal to the New York Yankees, William eventually became an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. He also knew his way around the kitchen and managed to perfect a fried fish recipe which became a staple at family gatherings. In his last days, William joined his family in the kitchen one last time and, under his watchful eye and with his gentle direction, the family recipe was passed to the next generation.
In addition to his wife, William is survived by two sons, William A. Whitman, Jr., and his wife, Jody, and Nathan Whitman, and his wife, Nora; three grandchildren – Alicia Whitman, Nicole Whitman, and Greyson Bordner; a sister, Patricia Klopp, and her husband, Gary; and a brother, Steven Whitman. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Whitman, and his brother, Allen Whitman.
Funeral services will be held privately. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. has been entrusted with arrangements. Please share your memories with the family at our online guest book at thompsonfuneralhomelebanon.com
