William “Bill” Charles Shoop, of Hershey, PA, died on Feb. 23, 2026. Born in Lebanon, PA, on June 11, 1953, he was the husband of Glenda H. Shoop and the son of the late Harry L. Shoop Jr. and Mary L. (nee Kissinger) Shoop.

Bill leaves behind a personal legacy embodied in the honorable characteristics that define him, the wisdom he shared, and the memories that reflect his life. He touched lives in meaningful ways, left lasting impressions, and defined his life by his roles as son, husband, uncle, friend, and colleague rather than by accomplishments or acquisitions.

Bill had a special love affair with golf from childhood. Each golf game or vacation taken with his golf buddies to Pinehurst, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC, was uniquely special. The golf course was a place not only for camaraderie, competition, and friendships, but also a place where Bill sought serenity and time for quiet reflection at crucible life events, such as the unexpected loss of his father when Bill was 20 years old.

While waiting for the arrival of springtime to dust off his golf clubs, Bill spent time in Lake Placid, NY, his favorite winter destination, and snowshoeing to mountain peaks in the Adirondacks. In the fall, golf and vacations took a backseat to Penn State football games. A decades-long season ticket holder, Bill hosted countless friends and family members at his tailgates; everyone was welcome. Regardless of the season, Bill enjoyed hiking with Glenda and visiting cherished friends in North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

The ocean and its beaches were places Bill enjoyed for fun and tranquility. His favorite destinations were Boothbay Harbor and Ogunquit, ME, the rugged cliffs of Nova Scotia, the northern shores of Prince Edward Island, and the beaches of Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, SC. He never lost his awe of the ocean’s vast, untamed beauty; the endless movement of the waves and the boundless view gave Bill peace and perspective.

Bill loved his family and friends purely and without conditions. He was devoted, dependable, and a willing protector to those he loved. He led his life with courage, dignity, optimism, and resilience, and in all the complexities of life, Bill focused on key pillars that make life good, such as maintaining a positive perspective, enduring relationships, commitment to his guiding principles, and appreciating life’s simple gifts.

In addition to his parents, Bill was most recently preceded in death by his sister, Susan L. Kercher. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Hostetter Shoop; brothers-in-law, John S. Kercher, of Lebanon, and David G. Hostetter (Margaret Kersbergen), of Colorado; nieces, Suzanne M. Kercher, of Lancaster, and Mary Rachel Hostetter (Joonas Rasanen), of Colorado; and a family of dear friends.

Always grateful. Always gracious. Rest in peace, Bill.

A private memorial service was held in Bill’s honor. Interment is private.
