William L. Birt, 81, of Mount Gretna, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of Rosemary (Teagarden) Birt, to whom he was married for over 46 years.

Born in New Castle, PA, he was a son of the late William J. and Eleanor (Stewart) Birt.

William was a retired PA State Trooper and was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Lebanon. He enjoyed playing the trumpet, bagpipes, and classical guitar. He was a clown with the Tall Cedars and was a member of the New Castle Masonic Lodge. William enjoyed caring for his orchids and tropical fish and being in law enforcement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Shannon Birt, of OH, and William L. Birt Jr., of PA; two grandchildren, Jenna P. Birt and Jackson S. Birt; two nieces, Cyndi Dickson and Rev. Susan Fall; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Dickson.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
