Scrambling for necessary documentation at a time of great stress is not advisable. We realize this is a task that is easily put off, but we urge you to take the time to be prepared when there is no sense of urgency attached to it.
Here, to help you, is a checklist of documentation you will need:
- Birth certificate of the deceased.
- A recent photo
- A marriage certificate (if applicable)
- Military service discharge paper (form DD214) – very important to arrange for a military funeral.
- Deed for the cemetery plot
- Life or funeral insurance policy.
- Funeral pre-need papers.
