This year the Lebanon County Libraries Lebanon County Reads Program, the successor to the One Book One Community program, selected Running with Sherman, by Christopher McDougall. Congregation Beth Israel is pleased to present a lecture by author Christopher McDougall on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
Christopher McDougall was a journalist and AP war correspondent who moved from Philadelphia to Peach Bottom on the Susquehanna in lower Lancaster County, Amish country. He is a tall dynamic figure who gave a great TED talk and is an expert on running. It appears that we have evolved to be great endurance runners (arched foot, achilles tendon, strong gluteus muscles, upright posture and perspiration!) who in our early history found dinner by running down antelopes who can only take one breath per stride, don’t perspire and quickly overheat.
The event date is Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021.
A reception with light refreshments and Meet and Greet with Christopher McDougall will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the synagogue. Tickets to the reception and lecture are available for $100.
The lecture will begin at 8:00 p.m. followed by a Q&A, book sale, and signing. Tickets to the lecture only are $20 for adults, $10 for students.
CDC guidelines for COVID will be followed.
Please call the Synagogue at (717) 273-2669 to purchase tickets or stop into any of the Lebanon Community Libraries.
