The Odyssey of the Mind World Finals took place last month at Michigan State University, and the competition featured two teams from the Lebanon Valley.
Teams from Cedar Crest High School and Cornwall Elementary School made the trip out to East Lansing, Michigan to compete against other squads from around the world.
Odyssey of the Mind (“OM”) is an international educational competition that encourages creative problem-solving for students from kindergarten through college.
The World Finals featured nearly 900 teams representing more than 15 different countries.
The Cornwall Elementary team placed 3rd in their respective division of “Structure Toss” and the Cedar Crest High School team placed 2nd. This category of OM competition sees teams building structures out of balsa wood, which are then tested and assigned scores based on how well they perform in different capacities.
The teams won their way to the World Finals independently by way of the State Finals, which were held this past April in the Poconos. Both teams were Champions in their respective competitions at State Finals.
For more about the competition, see the Lebanon Daily News’ coverage here (paywall).
Hi Irvin, we did not receive the names in the release, although the Daily News identified a couple of the kids. Here is their article: https://www.ldnews.com/story/news/education/2019/06/04/cornwall-lebanon-pa-world-odyssey-mind-finals-school/1327406001/
Were the names of the team members published anywhere? This was a very exceptional accomplishment by our local students. Is there any planned recognation for them in Lebanon County?
