Agricultural land preservation, mosquito-borne disease control, and more were on the agenda as staff members of the Lebanon County Conservation District met with local legislators last week to discuss conservation efforts in the Lebanon Valley.
In attendance for the roundtable discussion held this past Friday were Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Patrick McDonnell, Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts Executive Director Brenda Shambaugh, State Representative Frank Ryan, and Lebanon County Commissioners Bill Ames and Jo Ellen Litz.
Secretary McDonnell was on hand to discuss the ongoing Chesapeake Bay clean up efforts. This included talk of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan, the third phase of which will be beginning soon.
According to LCCD’s news release following the meeting, matters specific to conservation in Lebanon County and local residents were also discussed, including the DEP’s MS4 program and how the state budget will affect conservation.
The Lebanon County Conservation District is an independent agency that was created under Pennsylvania’s Conservation District Law.
