For 31 years, the Union Canal Tunnel Park hosted Union Canal Days in spring – a weekend of tours, food, music, and more. In 2020, the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but 2021 will see the event returning to the park on the weekend of May 15 and 16.
Union Canal Days will take place from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, at the park located at 25th Street and Union Canal Drive. Parking costs $5 per car although admission is free.
Vendors, live music, tours, and other attractions are part of the weekend lineup. Though in past years Union Canal Days have featured tours through the historic tunnel itself via boat, this year the tours “may need to be walking tours instead,” according to co-chair Pam Tricamo, reflecting social distancing protocols.
Muscian and entertainer Matt Dodd will also perform “Songs and Stories of Union Canal” on both days from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
As of publication, the list of vendors and exhibits included:
- Royer’s Flowers
- Cakes and Sweets – offering 15 varieties of whoopie pies
- Color Street Dry Nail Polish Strips
- Behm’s Signs and Designs
- Tastefully Simple – offering cake mixes, sauces, dips, and spices
- Alison’s Maple Products – offering “everything maple”
- Basement Waterproofing Specialists
- Balloon animals
A gift basket raffle will also take place.
The event is put on by the volunteer group Friends of the Union Canal Tunnel Park, in addition to the sponsors listed here. Those interested in helping out for the event or donating a gift basket should contact Pam or Vince Tricamo at (717) 272-3682 or via email at ptricamo@comcast.net or vtricamo@comcast.net.
