Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

It really felt like it’s been a while since I grabbed lunch out during the workday. I have had leftovers for a while and was looking for a change. I decided to go for something only one member of the critic crew likes, nay, loves.

Around the Valley, Japanese options aren’t plentiful. But today, I ordered from Misago Bistro on Cumberland St in North Cornwall. Located in the old Inn 422, they opened a few years ago and since the pandemic hit, they moved to takeout only service.

They have an online ordering platform, which I used today, to make my selections. For today’s order it was Fire Crunchy Roll ($7.95) and Flamingo Roll ($11.95). There is a convenience fee for the online order, which for me today it was $1.20.

Flamingo Roll on the left and Fire Crunchy Roll on the right. Both rolls are from Misago Bistro Sushi.

It said my order would be ready in 15-20 minutes, giving me plenty of time to leave my office and make the trek down. But I got a text after a couple minutes telling me the order was ready. Pick up is inside the lobby. There is a phone to alert staff that you are there.

They also have other dishes, ranging from hibachi, teriyaki, rice & noodle, and combo lunch and dinner options.

The Fire Crunchy Roll is a shrimp tempura, cream cheese with crunchy outside and spicy mayo drizzled on top. I am not a fan of cream cheese itself, but I like it within my rolls. Mix it with the wasabi and it will give you a good spicy kick.

The Flamingo Roll is spicy salmon, avocado wrapped with a crunchy outside and topped with fresh raw salmon. The salmon on top was a nice, fresh piece. Good cut and very flavorful.

Our take: Misago offers a quality sushi roll. They get a little creative with the rolls but nothing too outlandish. If you’re new to this type of cuisine, it can be overwhelming. If you’re a connoisseur, you too will be satisfied. The online ordering is very user friendly. They are still only takeout, but we hope they will open the restaurant back up sometime soon..
