Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Normally our Saturday mornings are busy. Now the little critic is taking a gymnastics class and we don’t get to do our normal breakfast meals. This past Saturday, we found ourselves over on the east side of Lebanon after gymnastics was over.

I mentioned that I never got to try a soft pretzel from a small shop on E Lehman St and 7th Ave, Shuey’s Pretzels Inc. So, we made a stop. I always remembered the long lines stretching down the block every time I drove past. Today, there was no line, so we were able to quickly drop in and grab a treat.

They offer a regular size ($1.25) and a giant ($6.25) soft pretzel every Saturday. I chose the giant pretzel. And a giant size it was. Baked to a crispy edge and very doughy. The flavor is one that is unique. We could have gotten mustard from the shop, but one critic chose to make some beer cheese for us to enjoy our pretzel. We do wish it had some more salt on top.

Our take: The classic hard pretzels are always great. The soft pretzels are only available once a week. The flavor is great and when you eat them fresh you will be glad you made the trip or waited in line to get one.

We give this place ????.

Be on the lookout as we try a new restaurant in the Valley and make another stop on Wing Wars Season 2!
