Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to the first season of our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley Pizza Wars. Eight entrants from four regions of the Valley will compete, bracket style, to be declared the winner of Best Pizza in The Valley.

Our judgement will be based upon several factors including style of specialty slice, sauce, crust, and overall impression.

We begin in the North/Central Region pitting Pizza Town 1 in Jonestown against Sharky’s Pizza in Lebanon.

At Pizza Town, we were able to try several different specialty slices. They will make any specialty slice for you to order, even if it isn’t sitting in the case. Tonight, we got a deep dish slice with pepperoni, bacon, and mushrooms ($4.50) and a stuffed meat lover’s slice ($5.50). A fresh bite with the crispy crust brings forth a flavorful bite on these big slices.

At Sharky’s Pizza we were limited as they do not sell their specialty pizza by the slice. We ordered the meat lover’s pie ($13) which comes with burger, sausage, ham, pepperoni, and bacon. The crust throughout was crispy and easy to bite through. The sauce had a hint of sweet but finished with a seasoned touch.

The winner: With a lot of options that end with yum, a slice that is good for the lips, but light on the hips, and a great hometown feel, we selected Pizza Town 1 as our winner from the North/Central Region!

Pizza Town 1 will go up against the winner of the East Region matchup – Bella Pizza in Richland vs. Justino’s Pizza in Newmanstown.
