Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!
Welcome back! It feels like it’s been forever since we have written a regular review. Well, let’s get back into the swing of things.
For today’s review, we decided to make a stop for a quick lunch during the workday. I happen to be on my way back from a business meeting and I thought, why not stop over at this new place that just showed up in North Cornwall, Jersey Mike’s Subs, and see what all the hubbub is all about?

Located within a newly built strip mall, this restaurant offers a few dine-in tables but offers mostly takeout service. This was my first time ever at a Jersey Mikes. But having seen the recent commercials on TV, I knew what to expect. Also, I knew they were “famous” for their cheesesteaks. For those that plan ahead, they do have online ordering so you don’t have to wait in what could be a long line to get your sandwich.
So, since that is what they were famous for, my lunch today will be the Mike’s Famous Philly. I chose the small option for $9.25. Since I was returning from a meeting, I took this with me as a takeout meal and was going to eat at home before I went back out to my office.
As I opened the sandwich, it did not look appealing. The cheese was cooked in with the steak. Not your Philly standard with cheese wiz, but with American cheese. The steak itself was flavored very well, and even though it didn’t look good, it did taste good. You have options to get your steak with grilled onions and/or peppers. Normally I get mine with both, but today I opted against it.
Our take: Jersey Mike’s is your typical chain sandwich shop. Ordering is easy and fast, with a large menu board above the open grills and sandwich prep areas. Since it’s a chain, be ready to spend a few extra dollars, not for anything but the brand name itself. Our sandwich did not look appealing but it tasted good. I would rather spend my money at a local shop and get something that looks and tastes good.
