Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!
Welcome to the first season of our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley Steak Wars. Three entrants from the Valley will compete to be declared the winner of Best Steak in The Valley.
Our judgement will be based upon several factors including cooking/preparation of the steak, seasoning, quality, and overall critic impression.
We begin out in the western end of the Valley in the borough of Palmyra. Located near East Main and Grant Streets, Babe’s Grill House + Lounge is an upper scale eatery with a menu of wings, burgers, BBQ, and steaks, featuring locally sourced selections, inside a converted house and a front patio dining area.

Our selection for judgement this evening was the sirloin cut, with sautéed onions and black garlic butter ($25 + $2 for each add on). We also got two sides, maple carrots, and French fries.
The sirloin cut was 8 oz and we ordered it medium. The seasoning was simple. The quality of steak seemed like a top cut. There was a good char achieved across this cut. Even though the sirloin is a leaner cut, the inside had great juices. We would have liked to see some more of the sautéed onions included. The addition of the black garlic butter added a nice subtle flavor addition.
How will this steak stack up against the others? We shall see!
Next up we will travel to our other entrants: Tony’s Mining Company and Harper’s Tavern. After which, we will announce our winner.
