History

The Cornwall Manor Society (formerly known as the Golden Cross Society) was established in the spring of 1950, six months after the founding of Cornwall Manor (formerly known as The Methodist Church Home at Cornwall). From the beginning, the purpose of the auxiliary was to support the establishment of Cornwall Manor by raising funds to provide linens and supplies and promote the widest possible interest in Cornwall Manor.

Funds were raised through membership drives, bazaars and the gift shop. The Manor Shoppe, whose origins stem from card tables set up in the historic Buckingham Mansion, was formally organized in 1953 and was located in the dining room of Freeman Hall. The Manor Shoppe is located in the Freeman Community Center and has occupied this space since 1984.

Seventy-three years later, the Cornwall Manor Society’s mission remains the same – to support the ministry of Cornwall Manor by building relationships both on and off campus, by providing opportunities for volunteers to bring services and programs to Corson Hall Personal Care and Health Center residents and by raising funds for Benevolent Care. Throughout their history, the Cornwall Manor Society has given back more than $3 million dollars to Cornwall Manor and this accomplishment is credited to the many fundraisers including the Manor Shoppe gift and convenience store, the Treasure Trove thrift store; Crafters; special events like the Blooms & More Festival (held the first Saturday in May), theatre buyout event at Lebanon Community Theatre in July, Cookies, Crafts, Carols & More holiday event (held the first Saturday in December) and many fundraisers throughout the year including gift card and apple dumpling sales and special sales of resident-made items.
