In honor of the 50th annual Mount Gretna Outdoor Art Show, Lebanon County Commissioners recently designated 2024 as the Year of the Arts in Mount Gretna.

Visit Lebanon Valley announced the designation in a December 28 press release, saying that the recognition is a testament to the cultural significance of the area, which is home to a variety of art forms including theater, music, and visual arts.

The Mount Gretna Outdoor Art Show, taking place this year on Aug. 17 and 18, is a nationally ranked event that brings together thousands of people each year. The show exhibits a unique variety of art, influenced by both local and regional themes.

“The 50th Mount Gretna Outdoor Art Show will honor the impact this nationally ranked event has on our region. The show will celebrate all of the cultural, artistic, educational, and performance events in our town,” art show director Kerry Royer said in a release. “As we commemorate this milestone, we will recognize how the arts have created our unique sense of place in the Lebanon Valley.”

As part of the Year of the Arts celebration, Visit Lebanon Valley will highlight artists and organizations that make their home in Lebanon County throughout the year.

“For the entirety of 2024, we will be celebrating all things art around the Valley, whether that’s murals in Downtown Lebanon, musicals at the Mount Gretna Playhouse, or an outdoor concert at Coleman Memorial Park,” Darby Seymour, public relations manager for Visit Lebanon Valley, said in the release. “In other words, if it’s related to art and it’s in the Valley, then you can probably bet we’re going to talk about it!”

The organization is currently accepting suggestions for individuals and organizations to be included in the celebration. Individuals and organizations with an interest in being part of the celebration may email dseymour@visitlebanonvalley.com for more information.
