The City of Lebanon is accepting applications through Friday, April 26, for 2024 Community Development Block Grant funds.
The CDBG program provides federal money to improve the quality of life for people with low or moderate incomes, revitalize urban centers, and address the health and safety needs of low-income communities. It is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Municipalities such as the city receive grant funds from HUD and are responsible for distributing them to grantees in accordance with HUD objectives and criteria. Private companies, nonprofit organizations, and individuals are not eligible to receive CDBG funds directly from HUD.
Proposed CDBG projects must meet at least one of the following criteria to be eligible for funding:
- Benefit low- and moderate-income persons.
- Help prevent urban blight and eliminate slums.
- Address urgent community development needs that present a serious and immediate community health and welfare threat for which no other funding is available.
In years past, the city has used CDBG money for crime prevention and police, street improvements, home buyer assistance, housing rehabilitation, code enforcement, water main improvements, a homeless shelter, and general administration.
The city accepts applications for funding from its CDBG funds from outside agencies, on a competitive basis, for eligible activities that meet one or more of CDBG’s national objectives and the cityโs CDBG goals and objectives, as described in its 2020-24 consolidated plan.
Applications must be submitted by mail or hand-delivered no later than 4 p.m. Friday, April 26, to:
City of Lebanon
Community Development Office
Lebanon City Hall
735 Cumberland St.
Lebanon, PA 17042
Phone: 717-639-2800
Applications delivered or postmarked after 4 p.m. on April 26 will not be accepted.
Applicants must be incorporated for-profit, nonprofit, or public organizations or businesses able to undertake an approved CDBG activity within the City of Lebanon. They must meet all CDBG requirements set by HUD.
The city has issued an application form and instructions for applicants. Questions can be addressed to Janelle Mendoff, community development administrator, at 717-639-2800 or jmendoff@lebanonpa.org.
