Nurses at twelve local schools will soon have some additional much-needed supplies to serve students and the communities in which they work thanks to a grant from the Pennsylvania Kiwanis Foundation.

The $3,000 grant will be split among the Kiwanis clubs of Palmyra, Annville, and Lebanon, with $1,000 going to each. The money will be used to buy essential items, such as a supply of emergency clothing and personal hygiene products, for use by students in need.

“We really appreciate you thinking of us and helping us out,” Courtney Fackler, a Palmyra School District nurse, said in a press release.

The need for funding for personal care products and other “essential items” was identified after interviews with area nurses by the Lebanon County Kiwanis Clubs, the organization said in the release.

“The area Kiwanis clubs have been doing great things for the children of their communities for over 100 years,” said Chuck Meek, President-elect of Kiwanis Club of Lebanon. “We have been looking for a way to pool our resources to achieve even more.”

Meek said that when the prospect of combining their support for local schools into a grant funded project, all three clubs jumped at the chance.

“Using the grant provided by the Pennsylvania Kiwanis Foundation, we were able to expand the reach and depth of our individual efforts to provide even more basic health and personal supplies needed by our school nurses,” said Meek.

The Kiwanis are a nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to serving the children of the world. The Pennsylvania Kiwanis Foundation supports Kiwanis Clubs and Kiwanis-family service leadership programs by encouraging them to apply for grants that further the goals and ideals of Kiwanis and that promote the growth of Kiwanis.

Editorโ€™s note: This article was updated to clarify that the funds will help 12 local schools.
