UGI Utilities began a gas main replacement project this week in Lebanon.
The work, expected to be completed by early November contingent on weather and working conditions, will impact a small segment of North Partridge Street between Mifflin and Lehman streets.
UGI said that construction will take place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
UGI spokesperson John Mason said that the work is an opportunity for homes and businesses to convert to natural gas if they don’t already have a hookup.
“This year alone we’ve replaced more than 50 miles of gas main with more contemporary materials,” said Mason. “During many of these projects non-customers were able to become UGI natural gas customers.”
UGI will cover the cost of added service lines connecting the gas main to the new customer, along with the cost of installing a gas meter.
“Anything inside the house, including new natural gas appliances, are paid for by the homeowner,” said Mason.
Anyone interested in converting can contact UGI by calling 800-276-2722 or emailing gasconversion@ugi.com.
UGI said that drivers, residents, and business owners may see road closures, detours, and traffic delays while construction is ongoing. There will also be interupttion to natural gas service.
