Congressman Dan Meuser (R-PA9) was among the Republicans who met Thursday with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to discuss the new Department of Government Efficiency, a presidential advisory committee announced by President-elect Donald J. Trump and tasked with increasing government efficiency.
It was the first meeting on Capitol Hill for Musk and Ramaswamy since being tapped to lead the initiative last month. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA4) said the bicameral meeting was a brainstorming session.
Meuser said in a news release after the meeting that he has joined the DOGE Caucus.
“I was able to ask questions and share my recommendations on rooting out waste, fraud, redundancies, and unnecessary bureaucracy in the federal government,” said Meuser about the session with tech centibillionaire Musk, who made more than $250 million in political contributions during this year’s presidential campaign, and former GOP presidential candidate Ramaswamy, who has his own fortune from a previous career in biotech.
“DOGE will stop the federal bureaucracy from becoming an unelected fourth branch of government.”
“As a member of the House DOGE Caucus, I look forward to working alongside President Trumpโs advisory council, the Department of Government Efficiency, to make much-needed reforms to regain a limited government.”
Plans for the advisory committee are still under development, but reports from the meeting revealed that the DOGE duo expects work to be wrapped by July 4, 2026, the semiquincentennial, or 250th, anniversary of the Declaration of Independence’s signing.
