Gretna Theatre and Imaginary Friends Puppet Theatre are staging “Rylie’s Rotten Day,” a new musical that looks at the effects of bullying from the victim’s perspective at four Lebanon County libraries in February and March.
The production debuted locally on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Matthews Public Library in Fredericksburg. The next production is this Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at Lebanon Public Library. Future performances are scheduled at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Palmyra Public Library; 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Myerstown Public Library; and 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Annville Public Library.
Performances last about 30 minutes and are targeted at student in kindergarten through fifth grade.

“Rylie’s Rotten Day” tells the story of Rylie, who is having a tough time at school. Something bad happened at school but Rylie is reluctant to open up about it, a press release about the production explains, but he takes out his frustrations on his imaginary friends. “Can the friends get through Rylie’s tough exterior and help work through the feelings and make things better?”
This piece teaches the audience to take responsibility for their actions, and how to recognize if your actions are being hurtful to others, the press release says. The story and music are by Bill and Nate Kassay.
Imaginary Friends is a Harrisburg-based project devised by a group of puppeteers, theater practitioners, and amusement park entertainers from throughout the Northeast. Gretna Theatre is one of the oldest professional summer theaters in America.
