Following a public hearing, the East Hanover Township Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to approve a zoning ordinance and map amendment at its meeting Monday.
The new map, as recommended by the township’s recent comprehensive plan, rezones around 29 acres near Route 22 and Mill Road to light industrial, around 9 acres near Jonestown Road and Yordys Bridge to low-density residential, around 19 acres west of PA 934 and Miner Road to general commercial, and around 261 acres east and north and south of I-81 to industrial.
Mark Smith of the planning commission said that the change was meant to ensure that incoming Industrial developments are placed along state roadways that can accommodate increased traffic from developments.
Smith explained in a previous meeting that current non-conforming land use, and reasonable expansion, will be legally protected.

Also in zoning, the board unanimously approved an amendment recommended by the planning commission simplifying accessory apartments and elder cottage housing.
The amendment reclassifies accessory apartments into attached and detached, with detached elder cottage housing still being permissible but no longer classified the same way.
In addition, the board unanimously agreed to reaffirm budget approval. While the budget was approved in December, the solicitor explained that the advertisement for the hearing had technically not been published for enough days in the Lebanon Daily News due to a delay between the township sending the notice and its publication.
Supervisors also unanimously agreed to approve a Pennsy Supply low bid of $279,895 for the 2025 paving project, conditional on receipt of bond and insurance. Other bids were in the mid-$300,000 range, supervisors noted.
In other news, the board:
- Unanimously agreed to a resolution increasing the compensation for the township manager.
- Took action on multiple items concerning PLGIT and JBT CDs that were expiring, entering into new year-long agreements.
- Unanimously granted a time extension from the Scott Stouffer minor subdivision.
- Unanimously approved a survey quote of $1,698 from Light-Heigel and Associates for the H.M. Levitz Memorial Park. Surveys for the site in the records are inconsistent.
The East Hanover Township Board of Supervisors meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. These meetings are open to the public and do not require prior registration.
