Any rumbling and shaking you might feel this week around Lebanon likely won’t be coming from Fort Indiantown Gap, but from Lebanon High School.

The Lebanon School District says controlled blasting to prepare for the installation of artificial turf on the school’s field hockey/softball field will take place around noon today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, June 2-4.

“As part of our ongoing construction and campus improvement projects, controlled bedrock blasting will occur on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday … at approximately noon each day,” the district announced on its website.

Advance warning of each blast will be given by:

  • Five minutes before – three long horn blasts
  • One minute before – two long horns
  • All clear – one long horn

According to the district’s announcement, “these blasts are a necessary part of site preparation and conducted by licensed professionals, following strict safety protocols. While brief and carefully managed, you may hear a loud noise of feel slight vibrations in the surrounding area with each blast.”

District superintendent Dr. Nicole Malinoski told LebTown that “a multipurpose turf field can host a variety of sports, allowing student-athletes to practice and compete on a high-quality surface year-round. … Additionally, because turf fields require less maintenance than natural grass, they can be more cost-effective over time, reducing the strain on already limited resources.”
