First Friday Art Walk at Pho Bar & Grill

7 p.m., Friday, June 6 | 103 W. Main St., Annville

Genres and conventional approaches to songwriting are a thing of the past, a dying art. While this may be the bane and disapproval of many modern music listeners’ experience, an artist like Alex Stanilla uses this approach as inspiration. Stanilla’s music seems to be the result of the internet age and having access to a number of different forms of media at any time. Stanilla’s songs are equal parts electro-pop, hip hop, alternative rock, and jazz with an assorted number of glitches, synth howls, and shouted vocals making their way through the sonic landscape of his songs.

Stanilla’s latest album, “Qualia,” has been described as the lovechild of “The Beach Boys and Bastille,” and he’s described it as an “impression.” “It’s like making an experimental film, very little thought to how things should transpire, but just going to the strangest places possible.” Stanilla already has another E.P. and a full-length ready to be released in the coming months and sees this time in his life as a “musical purge.” For anyone who likes their pop music homemade and created with a great deal of heart and intention, Stanilla’s music is highly recommended.

$35.00 | 1-3 p.m., Saturday, June 7 | 525 S. College St., Myerstown

Imagine a time when everything you owned, from undergarments to table linens, had to be handmade; there were no shops to buy your clothes from. Animals and plants, flax and sheep wool, specifically, were most commonly used during this time to make these items.

This class is the fourth of our Sheepy Series, where you will learn this age-old process from start to finish. Learn how to clean fleece, prepare it for spinning, spin on a drop spindle first, and then spin on a spinning wheel. Learn how to dye this beautiful fiber using natural dyes over an open fire. With these dyed fibers, you can learn to warp a loom and weave items.

Experience the sense of pride, accomplishment, and the tugging of the past by joining us in this endeavour.

In this class, learn the process of dyeing yarn. Here’s what you can expect: You will dye two skeins of prepared and spun fiber, as well as learn the different plants and insects that can be used to create dyes.

Each student will go home with two skeins of local PA-milled yarn. Space is extremely limited, so please sign up early. Send us a message to register! Cost is $35 per person. Additional skeins for dyeing may be purchased on the day of the class at $15 a piece.

Documentary Film Follow-Up Show at Allen Theatre

$10.00 | 6-8 p.m., Saturday, June 14 | 36 E. Main St., Annville

Annubis Productions is proud to announce the follow-up showing of their latest documentary, “This Is Why I Believe,” a compelling film featuring short interviews with 25 individuals exploring the deeply personal reasons behind their faith in God. The follow-up showing will take place on Saturday, June 14, starting at 6 p.m., at the Allen Theatre, 36 E. Main St., Annville. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 each.

“This Is Why I Believe” was inspired by a simple yet profound question posed during a church sermon: “Why do you believe in Jesus?” This question ignited a personal quest to understand the foundation of faith in contemporary America. A 2023 Gallup poll revealed that only 47% of Americans hold absolute certainty in their belief in God, a statistic that underscores the importance of exploring and sharing stories of faith.

“Why do people believe in God?” asked Erik Soulliard, the film’s director. “And, if we could share their stories, perhaps we could inspire others to rediscover faith.”

This documentary features raw and honest interviews, revealing the diverse and powerful reasons behind belief. These interviews have already resonated with audiences online, demonstrating a genuine desire to understand and connect with the personal journeys of faith.

“In an age of fleeting content, we’ve created a film that delves deeper,” stated Soulliard. “These stories are too powerful to be diluted. We believe they deserve to be shared in their authentic form with no supplementary footage.”

This feature-length documentary doesn’t just contain personal stories, it also incorporates interviews with theologians and psychologists to provide a comprehensive understanding of the universal human experience of faith.

World-Wide Make Music Day at I.U.13 Building Parking Lot

Free | 11-11:45 a.m., Saturday, June 21 | 1 Cumberland St., Lebanon

This is a world-wide performance day of making music, on street corners, anywhere outside, for free, for everyone around the world.

“It all started 43 years ago in France.

In 1982, Jack Lang and his staff at the Ministry of Culture dreamed up an idea for a new kind of musical holiday. They imagined a day where free music would be everywhere, all around each city: street corners, parks, rooftops, gardens, and store fronts.

And, unlike a typical music festival, anyone and everyone would be invited to join and play music, or host performances. The event would take place on the summer solstice, June 21, and would be called Fête De La Musique (In French, the name means both “festival of music” and “make music.”).

Amazingly enough, this dream has come true. The Fête has turned into a true national holiday: the country shuts down on the summer solstice and musicians take over. Almost 11% of French people (7 million people) have played an instrument or sung in public for the Fête de la Musique, and 64% of the country (43 million people) comes out each year to listen.

Four decades later, the holiday has spread throughout the world and is now celebrated in more than 2,000 cities across dozens of countries.”

The Perseverance Band of Lebanon, organized in 1856, will be performing on this day in honor of this world-wide event.
