Stephen Okamoto, 36, of Lebanon, was sentenced on Thursday to 85 months in federal prison for distribution of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

After Okamoto pleaded guilty last year, U.S. District Judge Keli M. Neary handed down the sentence on June 26 following an investigation that began when law enforcement identified an IP address sharing child pornography through BitTorrent software.

He was also sentenced to supervised release for 15 years and restitution of $15,000.

Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus said the IP address was traced to Okamoto’s residence, where FBI agents executed a search warrant. During the search, agents recovered electronic devices containing more than 1,900 images of child pornography.

The case was investigated jointly by the FBI and Derry Township Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Scalera serving as prosecutor.

Federal child pornography convictions typically carry mandatory minimum sentences and require registration as a sex offender upon release.
