Imagine a time when everything you owned, from undergarments to table linens, had to be handmade. There were no shops to buy your clothes from. Plants and animals, flax and sheep wool specifically, were most commonly used during this time to make these items.

This class is the fourth class in our Sheepy Series, where you will learn this age-old process from start to finish. Learn how to clean fleece, prepare it for spinning, and spin it on a drop spindle first and then on a spinning wheel. Learn how to dye this beautiful fiber using natural dyes over an open fire. With these dyed fibers, you can learn to warp a loom and weave items.

Experience the sense of pride, accomplishment, and the tugging of the past by joining us in this endeavour. In this class, learn how to weave on a rigid heddle loom and turn your yarn into a beautiful creation. Here’s what you can expect: You will learn the basics of how to warp a loom and create a basic weave. In this class, we will focus on making a scarf. We have donated yarn, but you are more than welcome to bring your own for your creation.

This is a two-day class — Saturday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 16, from 1-4 p.m. each day. You can bring your own loom or rent one for $10.00, thanks to the Walk-in Arts Center in Schuylkill Haven. Request one when booking your ticket for the class. Cost is $60.00 per person, with a maximum of eight people.
