Join Lancaster County Bird Club on Saturday, Dec. 27, for a day in the field and a complement to the Speaker Series event on the history of the Christmas Bird Count. This hands-on experience will allow participants to explore Middle Creek’s winter landscape and observe the season’s local bird species while gaining insight into the process of counting birds for the CBC. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or new to birding, this outing offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and learn how birding data is collected in the field each year for this community science survey.
Be prepared to dress for outdoor activity and colder temperatures, with appropriate footwear and binoculars being strongly encouraged. Walking could be up to a mile. This event is free and open to the public. Also, as a general reminder, the Middle Creek Visitors Center will be closed for the season, so early entry will not be permitted.

Live Music with Six Bar Break at Fredericksburg Eagle Hotel
6 p.m., Saturday, December 27 | 101 E. Main St., Fredericksburg
Six Bar Break is a full-throttle, roots rock trio homed in Harrisburg, PA. Helmed by the group’s primary songwriter, Ben Bollinger, they’ve been spreading the word about the band throughout the mid-Atlantic and picking up new fans everywhere they go.
Their style and sound take a little bit of inspiration from yesterday and today, describing it as a modern fusion of roots, rock, and blues, but still uniquely original. They’re constantly driven to create something of their own — something built on the riffs, beats, and solos, and glued together with a vocal begging to be heard, and a story ready to be told.
The band independently released their first EP, “Echo Seven Nine,” in September 2016, and they just completed production on their 2017 release, “Broken Road,” with Fred Pellegrini and Progressive Studios. Anytime they’re not on tour, you can find them streaming live to fans on YouTube and Periscope, releasing new videos, staying in the top 10 on the Reverbnation charts, and working on the next big thing.

Hope for Hurting Parents at North Cornwall Commons Apartment Complex 5th Floor Lounge
Free | 2 p.m., Sunday, December 28 | 114 Blackford Blvd., Lebanon
Hope for Hurting Parents was started by Tom and Dena Yohe in 2011, based on their own 10-year journey with their daughter Renee, who struggled with mental health issues, addiction, and self-injury. They continue to lead free Zoom meetings monthly and send out inspirational emails weekly. They encourage people to start small in-person groups in their own community, which Becky and Joe Duke did three years ago.
People seem to find comfort and strength in meeting with others who have gone through similar situations. At our support group meetings, we discuss one of 22 topics as outlined in Yohe’s workbook, such as self-care, enabling, worry and anxiety, hope, and guarding your family. The workbook also includes prayers, exercises, websites, and other resources.
Support group sessions are free and open to anyone who is a parent, caregiver, or loved one with someone who struggles with mental health issues, estrangement, addictions, gender dysphoria, incarceration, homelessness, or any other problem that causes you to experience emotional and spiritual turmoil. Our mission is to give comfort, encouragement, and hope to hurting parents/caregivers on their journey from surviving to thriving.
