Suzy Q’s Cafe, which recently acquired a storefront inside the Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster building at 1701 Cornwall Road, held a grand opening Monday morning to much success, according to owner Suzanne Taylor.

Though Monday was the cafe’s grand opening, Taylor said, they held a soft opening last week to prep for the grand opening. There was a 39% increase in sales from the cafe’s best day last week to its grand opening Monday, she said.

“Last week we did a soft open so that we can get some of our processes down that are a little bit different than the coffee truck: making sandwiches, making soup on-site, making our different baking goods there,” said Taylor. “We just did a little soft open, we didn’t really announce too much that we were going to do anything, we just did it for three days last week.”

The cafe’s offerings include freshly made sandwiches, a soup of the day, fresh-baked goods either made in-house or acquired from local small businesses, and a variety of drinks. They plan to offer acai bowls (a staple of their coffee truck) as an occasional special.

When Taylor lost her job three years ago, she did not want to return to a corporate work environment. At the suggestion of a friend, she started Suzy Q’s as a food trailer, which she has been running primarily in Harrisburg and Hershey for two and a half years.

When she heard about the location on the second floor of the Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, she felt it would be a perfect fit for her business, as she had long hoped to open a brick-and-mortar location. Though the cafe is inside the building, it is open to the general public as well as patients.

The storefront includes several tables and chairs for customers who would like to sit to eat. Taylor described the space as having “a very nice atmosphere.”

The cafe will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The coffee truck will also continue to be in operation, with updates posted to the business’s Facebook page.
