On April 17, Lebanon Transit will join a global celebration of public transit as part of the first ever World Public Transit Day.

Led by UITP, the International Association of Public Transport, this global campaign shines a light on the critical role public transit plays in our everyday lives, the success of our towns and cities, our economic prosperity, and sustainable development.
The day is designed to celebrate the everyday journeys – shared and solo – that connect us to extraordinary destinations and to each other.

Lebanon Transit’s celebration kicks off at 9:00 a.m. at the 7th & Willow Transfer Station where transit staff will hand out complementary donut holes and coffee. Then from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., staff will hand out complementary soft pretzels and bottled water, and Lebanon-based singer-songwriter Alex Stanilla will perform an acoustic set of his original songs. Riders will also have a chance to win one of several raffle prizes. Fixed Route riders are eligible when they log trips they take on Lebanon Transit through April 17 in the Commute PA app.

“Every ride tells a story,” said Lebanon Transit executive director, Angie Luciotti. “Our riders are students, workers, seniors, neighbors, and friends. They depend on Lebanon Transit to access jobs, healthcare, groceries, and family. World Public Transit Day is about recognizing them, thanking them, and reaffirming our commitment to keeping reliable service available for everyone.”
More than 203,000 trips were logged last year on Lebanon Transit’s Fixed Route bus system. According to the transit authority’s 2025 Fixed Route Rider Satisfaction Survey, more than half of riders used the bus to get to shopping destinations and to and from work. Another 38,000 trips were logged by riders on the Shared Ride system with these riders most frequently accessing medical appointments, work, and dialysis treatments.

About World Public Transit Day
World Public Transit Day is a brand-new initiative launching on April 17, 2026 and marked every year on the same day. Brought to you by UITP, the international association of public transport, it’s a global celebration of all the ways public transit moves us and makes sure we get from A to B (and everywhere in between). The day highlights the journeys that move us and the people who make them possible – from everyday commutes to extraordinary adventures. The day is a chance to shine a spotlight on how public transit connects people, opens up opportunities, supports cleaner cities, and helps build healthier, more connected communities. It’s one day and millions of journeys. A day to say – we love public transit, it moves us all.
