Women throughout Lebanon County are invited to help the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women to formulate the State of the Woman Report, a statewide effort designed to gather the experiences, needs, and priorities of women in all 67 counties in Pennsylvania.
In a press release, spokesperson Laurie Crawford said the project will lead to “one of the most comprehensive reports on the status of women in Pennsylvania in more than two decades.”
The report is expected to be released at the end of this year. According to the release, it aims to be “the most inclusive assessment of women’s wellbeing in the commonwealth’s history.”
The commission is encouraging communitywide participation through a digital survey and a series of in-person listening sessions. Laurie Funk, Lebanon County’s representative on the advisory commission, encourages local women to take part in both opportunities.
A regional stop on the statewide listening tour will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Chestnut Street Community Center, 611 Chestnut St., Lebanon. Women from all backgrounds are invited to attend, share their experiences, and contribute to shaping statewide recommendations.
Registration for the Lebanon Listening Session is available online.
According to the website, “This is an inclusive and bipartisan effort to ensure women from every background, community, and region are heard. Voices from rural, suburban, and urban areas will help shape data-driven recommendations to guide future policy and progress.”
The website also notes that each session will provide a children’s activity table, so participants do not need to arrange childcare in order to attend, as well as light food and beverages.
Women are also encouraged to complete the State of the Woman digital survey, which is open through May 30 and is available in three languages. It is “designed to capture diverse perspectives from across Pennsylvania,” according to the release.
“Join us in this rare opportunity for women in our community to directly influence statewide policy and highlight the issues that matter most to them,” Funk said in the announcement. “Every voice strengthens the report.”
Community leaders are asking local organizations, businesses, and residents to spread the word so as many women as possible can participate. For more information, contact Funk at lrcfunk@comcast.net.
