Palmyra Borough Council member Sheila Snyder presented her resignation to the public during the April 14 meeting.
Snyder was elected in November 2025 and was sworn into the position in January. During the reorganization meeting, council voted 5-2 for her to serve as vice president.
“It wasn’t planned quite like this, and I just wanted to tell you all that I genuinely appreciated serving in this role, and I appreciate all of you that put me here,” Sndyer said. “My family had an opportunity to own our home. We tried really hard to stay in the borough, but it just wasn’t a possibility for us right now.”
Council now has 30 days from April 1 to fill her seat.
According to the agenda, interested candidates should submit their information to the borough office by April 24 and attend the public April 28 meeting prepared to present themselves for consideration. Public interviews will be conducted, as required by law, and a candidate will be chosen and sworn in.
“You guys have a great team here,” Snyder said. “We might not always see eye-to-eye on things, and that is OK, but I really believe that you have a great borough council sitting up here at this table that is capable of doing some really positive things for our community.”
Mayor Tom Miller and council president Denver Wilson both thanked Snyder for her service on council.
In other business, council:
- Authorized sending an updated ordinance to the Palmyra Borough Planning Commission and the Lebanon County Planning Department for review and comment. The ordinance, if approved, would add live/work residential development to the town residential district as a use and provide regulations for that use.
- Approved a letter of understanding establishing the terms under which the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development agrees to provide the borough with technical assistance to sustain local municipal fire services. Interim borough manager Brenda Pera said this agreement is for the no-cost regional fire study the municipality is taking part in.
- Heard a report from Western Lebanon County Regional Police Chief Andrew Winters that Palmyra Area Senior High School in nearby North Londonderry Township will have a county Department of Emergency Services drill on May 9. Pera said she gave permission for emergency personnel to use the borough building to gather before responding in the morning.
Due to the number of meetings countywide, this meeting was covered remotely by LebTown using a livestream of the meeting posted to the borough’s YouTube page.
Palmyra Borough Council will meet next at 325 S. Railroad St. on April 28 at 7 p.m. Meetings are also streamed on the Palmyra Borough, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania YouTube page.
