Five Lebanon County postal workers were inducted on April 16 into the National Safety Council Million Mile Club.

Letter carriers Steve Kramer, Jeff Stalnecker, David Koons, Trina Fincher, and Mike Heck were recognized at the ceremony for a combined 173 years of driving excellence.

“While the USPS continues to transform and modernize to meet our customers’ needs, there will always be that element of personal engagement that these five has exhibited throughout their careers,” manager of post office operations Lisa Pecht explained.

“This achievement is equivalent to each of these letter carriers driving from Lebanon to Harrisburg on US 322 for 17,857 round trips without a preventable accident,” senior safety specialist Lora Halpin added.

Stalnecker, who is retired, offered some advice for his fellow letter carriers: “Be diligent and aware of your surroundings. I practice what I preach even now as a retired Million Mile professional driver.”

The other local honorees said their fellow letter carriers should “expect the unexpected, pay attention of your surroundings, be defensive and don’t guess what the other drivers will do.”

The Million Mile Club is part of the Safe Driver Award program created by the National Safey Council highlighting drivers with 1 million miles of driving or 30 accumulated years driven without preventable accidents. The Safe Driver Award is the trademark of the expert driver and is recognized as the nation’s highest award for professional safe driving.
