The Jackson Township Board of Supervisors approved a payment of $52,329.41 to CriLon Corp. for the East Main Avenue Bridge project at their May 18 meeting.

A balance of $5,653.31 remains to be paid once the final stages of the work are completed. Improvements were made to address scour issues along the bridge footers and abutments along the channel after a county inspector placed it on the county’s list of scour critical bridges. Scour refers to the erosion of soil around a bridge’s foundation caused by flowing water.

Engineer Garik Urban also updated council on the South Ramona Road bridge wing wall repair. Construction is complete, and a final inspection will occur soon.

On May 21, a zoning hearing board meeting for Allen Distribution is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the township building, 60 N. Ramona Road. The meeting is open to the public. Allen Distribution received a $1 million Multimodal Transportation Fund grant in February 2025 to build three rail sidings serving a proposed 625,000-square-foot warehouse at 655 King St. and connecting to a Norfolk Southern line.

In other news, council:

  • Held a public hearing on the property at 425 W. Main Ave. due to ongoing issues of neglect, failure to correct housing code violations, and dangerous conditions stemming in part from a February fire and explosion. Within 30 days, the township will have a fire remediation contractor assess the feasibility of rehabilitating the property.
  • Tabled discussion on the possible adoption of a Copart of Connecticut Inc. agreement.
  • Approved having solicitor Paul Bametzreider prepare an ordinance for public water hook-up requirements for new construction going forward.
  • Approved an update to a road crew on-call and payout policy. Under the new policy, employees will receive additional $100 compensation per weekend day or holiday when on call, effective beginning June 1.
  • Approved a Peddler and Solicitor Permit fee schedule.

The Jackson Township Board of Supervisors will meet next at 60 N. Ramona Road on June 1 at 7:30 p.m.
