For almost 140 years, the U.S. government, through the Library of Congress, has honored the field of poetry in terms of its power and presence in our American communities by choosing a Poet Laureate (first referred to as Consultant in Poetry) to represent that particular art in our culture. But who were the people they chose as a representation of that very same power and presence, and what did they themselves create?
In these investigations, we’ll take a deep dive into the actual poetry of four pivotal Consultants in Poetry and Poet Laureates in an attempt to discover why their particular art was chosen as a Bellweather for poetry in this country, and how they may have made indelible contributions to the lives of readers and writers across the American landscape.

Union Canal Tunnel Kayak Tour at Union Canal Tunnel Park

Tour the oldest existing transportation tunnel in the United States. The tunnel operated from 1827 to 1855. We have the honor of being given special permission for access on the water. Join us for a calm paddle and a history lesson, as a local historian shares the history and knowledge of the canal and the surrounding area.
A percentage of the cost goes to the Lebanon County Historical Society. Ages 16+. Paddling experience is required. No inflatables, no tandems. Bring a headlamp.

Hardwired – Metallica Tribute at The Allen Theatre

WWII Weekend Hosted By East Penn Re-Enactors at Alexander Schaeffer Farm

Historic Schaefferstown will host the WWII Weekend on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Alexander Schaeffer Farm.
The theme of this year’s event — the 36th Infantry Division during 1943 — pays tribute to Schaefferstown-native Guy Dulabone, who was killed in action.
Event organizers hope local veterans, including Russell Sattazahn, who was wounded in action and is a Purple Heart recipient, will attend the event.
Admission and parking are $5.00 per car, plus a suggested donation to help defray the cost of the family-friendly event designed to honor local veterans.

LCHS Sunday Program: Cornwall Furnace During the Revolutionary War at Lebanon County Historical Society’s Auditorium

Come join us for an afternoon of celebration and history on Sunday, July 26, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the Lebanon County Historical Society’s Auditorium as Mike Weber, local historian and guide at the Cornwall Furnace, presents “Cornwall Furnace During the Revolutionary War.”
Discover the Cornwall Iron Furnace and ironmasters Curttis and Peter Grubb and how they contributed significantly during the Revolutionary War. Curttis and Peter both served as colonels in the Pennsylvania militia (2nd and 8th battalions, respectively). Learn how they also produced cannon, shot and shell, salt pans, and stoves for use by the Continental Army and Navy. This presentation will provide an overview of the operations of the Cornwall Furnace and how the Grubbs contributed to the fight for independence.
Quittapahilla Audubon Society Field Trip at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area

Triumphant Quartet at Coleman Memorial Park

Fans first experienced the exceptional four-part harmony of genre leader Triumphant Quartet at Louise Mandrell’s beloved theater in Pigeon Forge, TN, in 2003. Twenty-plus years later, Triumphant remains a quintessential act in the gospel music industry.
Ministry is at the forefront of all of Triumphant’s efforts — regardless of musical categorization. Their goal is not to entertain, but to lead people in worship. “You can be entertained anywhere, but an experience with God is a totally different level,” said Eric.
As Triumphant continues to expand their repertoire — whether they’re stewarding a Southern Gospel classic, serving up an original, or covering a popular CCM song in four-part harmony — the affable group continues to expand their fanbase. Every night, much to their delight, they look out to see multiple generations of families enjoying their concerts together.
As they enthusiastically enter their third decade of ministry, these four men are more laser-focused than ever before on recording and performing songs that honor God, speak to their family-driven values, and help them usher as many people as possible into Glory. They look forward to what the future holds.

The James Biever Police-Community Alliance (JBPCA), in partnership with Making a Difference of Lebanon, PA, is excited to host a free Family Movie Day featuring “Zootopia 2,” proudly sponsored by Lebanon Federal Credit Union. This free event is open to all families in our community and offers a fun way to enjoy a summer afternoon together.
The event will be held on Sunday, July 26, at The Allen Theater in Annville. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and the movie begins at 1 p.m.
Family Movie Day is designed to bring our community together in a fun, welcoming atmosphere while fostering positive connections between local law enforcement and the families they serve. Before the movie begins, children and parents will have the opportunity to meet and chat with local police officers in a relaxed, non-emergency setting, helping build trust and strengthen community relationships. Guests can also enjoy complimentary water and snacks before settling in to watch the movie.
This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event is held on the third Thursday of each month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Compeer Office at 519 Chestnut St., Lebanon. This group offers a safe space for healing and is open to anyone 14 years or older.
Suicide loss is a different type of grief that can be isolating and confusing. You are not alone. Join us to be heard and understood.
