A Brief History of Colebrook and Its Furnace will be held in the Hall of Philosophy (or Community Building) of the Pennsylvania Chautauqua at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The event is presented by the South Londonderry Township Area Historical Society and the Mount Gretna Area Historical Society.

Presenters will share the poem “The Legend of the Hounds” by George Henry Boker, a text which first appeared in 1869, in a dramatic reading that will even include sound effects and said to be not for the faint of heart.

The poem details the story surrounding the Colebrook Furnace’s turn of the 18th century manager and his pack of hounds.

The tale is somewhat grisly, so attendees are advised to take this into consideration if bringing young children.

While the event is free to guests, donations are welcome. Refreshments will also be served.
