Barry B. Barnhart, 84, of Hummelstown, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, at home. Born Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1936, in Dallastown, he was the son of the late Kenneth D. and DeEtta V. (Hivner) Barnhart. He was married 61 years to Sandra M. (Runkle) Barnhart. Barry is also survived by two daughters: Bobbie Jo Poust, and husband, William, of Mechanicsburg, and Renee S. McGowan, and husband, Kevin, of Idaho, and one brother, Lonnie Barnhart, of Dallastown.

Barry was a graduate of Red Lion High School, where he served as Student Council President from 1953-54. He was also a captain of the football team and also played baseball. Attending Lebanon Valley College, he majored in chemistry, minored in math and also played football. Graduating in 1958, Barry attended graduate school at the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1968, and also completed all graduate courses at Millersville University. Additionally, he attended NSF programs at Juniata College and Brown University.

Barry first job teaching was at Palmyra High School from 1958 to 1966. From 1966-1970, he taught at Manheim Twp. High School, and, in 1971, began his career at Harrisburg Area Community College. In 1983, Barry was invited to teach a graduate course at Penn State Harrisburg, which he did for three years. After leaving PSU, he became the Gallery Supervisor at the Hershey Museum.
