Marino D. “Mari” Candori, 84, died on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, at his home in Palmyra.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1941, to the late Domenico and Vienna (Baldori) Candori, who owned and operated a grocery store in Annville’s West End, a neighborhood of Italian immigrants. His three older sisters doted on their baby brother and chose his middle name after the popular radio singer Dennis Day.
After graduating from Lebanon Catholic High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX. In 1963, he participated in Operation Big Lift, then the largest deployment of troops by air in history.
Returning to Annville in 1965, he went to work for his uncle Russ at Unger Bros. Tire Company. He spent his entire career in tire sales and retired in 2005.
In 1965, he married Christine “Tina” Alonzo, the sister of his best friend, Butch Alonzo, who lived across the street. He and Tina spent many summer weekends in Rehoboth Beach, where they enjoyed fishing aboard their boat in Delaware Bay.
He was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Annville, where he served for many years as a eucharistic minister and managed the fundraising raffle for the annual Summer Bazaar.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Teresa Candori, of the Bronx, NY, and Angela Candori, of Palmyra; and grandsons, Quinn Baker, of Harrisburg, and Nathan and Benjamin Stalnecker, of Philadelphia.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret “Maggie” Lavine, Minnie Nickliss, and Palm Bernardo; and best friend and brother-in-law, Harry “Butch” Alonzo. He was a cherished uncle to several loving nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 125 S. Spruce St., Annville. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Visitation with his family will be held on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, from 6-8 p.m., at Kreamer Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 618 E. Main St., Annville, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass at the Church.
