Michael J. Ponessa, 76, of Lebanon, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at his residence. Born in Lebanon on March 20, 1950, he was the husband of the late Harriet R. (Tilley) Ponessa and the son of the late Constantino Ponessa and Gloria (Chernich) Ponessa.

Michael was a graduate of Cedar Crest High School and continued his education for several years beyond. He spent much of his career working in the gambling industry, a field that mirrored his personal interests in horse racing, poker, and the occasional sports bet. He was also a veteran, having served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.

Outside of work, Michael found great joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid reader with a particular interest in American Indian history and loved relaxing to a classic Western. Many will remember him fondly, spending time outside on his porch with a cigar, enjoying the quiet of the day. A social man at heart, he could often be found at the Downtown Lounge, where he loved talking sports with his friends.

Family was the cornerstone of Michael’s life. During the summer months, he was mostly at home, poolside with his grandchildren, often found cooking on the grill for everyone to enjoy. During the winter months, he was vacationing in Las Vegas. He cherished every moment spent with those he loved.

Michael is survived by his son, Michael Ponessa, and his wife, Torri; and beloved grandchildren, Anthony, Kaitlyn, and Kiley.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Holy Savior Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service. A luncheon at the Blue Bird Inn will be held after services. All are welcome.
