In new reports by the United States Census Bureau, Lebanon County’s median income and the percentage of its residents living beneath the poverty line both saw slight changes compared to 2016.
The median household income according to the 2017 census was $57,372. In 2016, that figure was $57,248. However, the the percent of people living beneath the poverty line was 11.4% in 2017 and 9.3% in 2016. Both years had similar margins of error.
Dauphin County’s poverty rate rose to 12.2% in 2017, from 11.1% in 2016, despite remaining about the same median income ($60,331 in 2016 and $61,622 in 2017).
Compared to Philadelphia County, Lebanon County had a higher median household income and a significantly lower poverty rate, the county also comes out slightly above average when compared to the nation at large.
Note, this isn’t “census” data but American Community Survey data, which uses a different methodology.
