South Lebanon Township Police posted to Facebook today announcing a new internal database for people with autism and Asperger’s syndrome.
This program is designed to lower risk of a child or adult with autism by keeping first responders aware of the situation.
Autism Speaks, a nonprofit that focuses on the syndrome, says that teaching first responders the signs of autism is crucial for preventing unfortunate situations, which may be triggered by a person with autism having an impaired sense of danger, a tendency to wander and be overwhelmed by authority, and an instinct to react with fight or flight.
The completed form may be emailed to sburris@southlebanonpd.org, faxed to 717-376-0044, or mailed to the police department c/o Stephanie Burris at 1800 South 5th Avenue, Lebanon PA 17042.
