There’s a persistent buzz going around that Weis Markets will expand into the next door storefront currently occupied by Goodwill Industries.

When reached this week, neither company would substantiate the rumor.

Property records show that Weis Markets purchased the 798 S. 12th lot for $1,100,000 just about a year ago, on January 22, 2018 from City Properties Inc. Prior to Goodwill, the storefront was an Eckerd’s. The lot also includes additional frontage on Quentin Road.

A Weis spokesperson told us that for now the company had no comment regarding the 800 S. 12th Street store, and the Goodwill spokesperson said merely that the location would continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

Weis’ restaurant liquor license for this store is currently in safekeeping status. The license was transferred to the S. 12th St store in September 2017.

We’ll be following up with Weis until they are ready to confirm their plans for the lot. In the meantime, feel free to send us a tip with what you’ve heard while shopping there (and remember that we want to know about those new “low, low” prices).

Beer and wine gardens are also expected to land at local Giants this year, with that chain planning on opening them this summer.
