Monday is the first day of work for new Palmyra Borough Police Chief Andrew Winters.
His formal employment offer was authorized last Tuesday by the Palmyra Borough Council.
Winters told the Reading Eagle that he always planned to leave an urban police for a more rural setting, it just didn’t happen as fast as he thought: “I had in my head I was going to go back to Lebanon County, but once I got there (Reading) I enjoyed the job and the people and I decided to stay.”
Winters began his career as a part-time corrections officer with Lebanon County Prison while a student at Millersville University, according to the same article.
Winters succeeds Acting Chief Peter J. Mathews, who took the position following Chief Stanley J. Jasinski Jr.’s retirement at the end of last year.
