Lebanon County is overflowing with top-notch vocal talent and they’re giving the rest of the country a chance to enjoy it.

Last week LebTown reported on the St. Andrews Church Choir performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Today we will report that the Lebanon Catholic High School Senior Chorus will perform as the opening act for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes.

The show is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2:00 pm, and was arranged by the Lebanon Catholic Performing Arts Alliance (LCPAA), a parent-sponsored organization that supports all Lebanon Catholic High School Music programs with fundraisers, trips and other activities.

In phone conversations with LCPAA co-presidents Angie Jacobs and Laura Williams, this reporter learned that the story actually began last year when the LCPAA took a group of students to NYC to see a Broadway play. While they were there, they went on a tour of Radio City Music Hall, where they were told of the “Sounds Of Christmas” program that gives choruses a chance to open for the Rockettes Christmas Show.

The opportunity was there for the taking. After getting approval from school officials, an audition video was sent to NYC and the invitation was not far behind.

The Lebanon Catholic Senior Chorus, 29 students and Choir Director Lauren Shuyler, will hit the Great Stage performing a five to ten minute a cappella Christmas-themed show. They’ll have lots of supporters in the massive Music Hall audience, as the LCPAA has three busloads of family and friends going along. A few members of the chorus were also on hand during a recent WQIC remote at LCHS.

The high-kicking Rockettes have been a fixture at Radio City since 1932 and the Christmas Shows have been a popular favorite for generations. During the Holiday season, the Rockettes do as many as five 90-minute shows every day, with a different chorus opening each show. The Lebanon Catholic Chorus will open the 2:00 p.m. show, the second of four shows the Rockettes will do Dec. 1.

By the time you read this story, the last of the few remaining seats on the busses will likely be gone, but you can always call the school (717-273-3731), and hope for a miracle if you want to go along. Tickets can also be purchased online for the Rockettes Christmas Show, which runs through Jan. 5.
