Through June, Met-Ed will be conducting helicopter inspections in Lebanon and other central Pennsylvania counties.
Inspections will be performed by contractor Haverfield. As part of the comprehensive visual inspection process, the helicopter will fly in a slow, structure-by-structure/span-by-span approach across Met-Ed transmission lines.
“They are looking for damaged wire, broken cross arms, cracked insulators or other problems that could lead to service interruptions for our customers,” said Met-Ed spokesperson Todd Meyers in an email to LebTown.
Met-Ed said that it would be making efforts to contact known “sensitive property owners,” such as horse or livestock farms.
The helicopter that will be used is the one pictured above – a black Hughes MD500 with red tail registration numbers N175JL.
In addition to Lebanon County, inspections will be conducted in Northampton, York, Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, and Bucks counties.
Met-Ed is one of several companies operated by FirstEnergy in Pennsylvania.
