Submissions are needed for a slogan and logo contest for Lebanon’s Countywide Clean Water Action Plan (CAP) to improve local water quality. The winner will receive $250 and have their slogan/logo combination appear on local CAP materials, while the second- and third-place winners will receive $50 each.
Background
The CAP press release points to the York Daily Record’s “Killing the Chesapeake” series as demonstration of the effect of pollutants from local waterways on the Chesapeake Bay.
This problem motivated the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection, Dept. of Agriculture, and Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources to create a “Chesapeake Bay Phase III Watershed Implementation Plan” to reduce the amount of pollutants in PA waterways by 2025. “Tier 1” and “Tier 2” counties are currently developing Countywide Action Plans to work to reduce pollutants.
Lebanon is a “Tier 2” county in this plan, meaning that it is in the group of counties that are the second-largest contributors to pollutants of the Chesapeake Bay. Its CAP is being led jointly by LandStudies, Inc. and Lebanon County Conservation District (LCCD).
The Lebanon CAP team is made up of six action teams: Agriculture, Stormwater, Watershed, Data Management & Monitoring, Education & Outreach, and Legislative & Programming Changes.
Slogan and Logo Contest
The Lebanon CAP Education & Outreach Action team is holding the slogan and logo contest, with submissions due May 31. All Lebanon County residents can make submissions.
The CAP notes in its press release that it has been considering the slogans “Clean Water, Healthy Communities,” “Water is Life,” “Protect Our Water Resources,” “Protecting the Future of Lebanon County Waterways,” and “Protecting Lebanon County Waterways,” all of which contestants are free to use in their submissions. However, submissions may also use original slogans.
An entrant to the contest should be slogan alongside an “original, aesthetically pleasing, eye-catching logo.”
Those with questions about the contest or submissions are asked to contact Community Clean Water Action Plan Coordinator Mary Kate Gallagher at MaryKate.Gallagher@lccd.org or (717) 277-5275.
