Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!
This past Friday I was home from work, and I got to spend a glorious day with my little critic. I promised her a fun-filled day. We’d go for walks, play at South Hills playground, and grab some lunch at the Lebanon Farmer’s Market.
One of my friends posted about a new spot that opened at the market and thought we would swing in and give it a try.

The breakfast menu is simple; egg sandwiches or made-to-order omelet – but they do serve it all day. Lunch offers additional options: burgers, dogs, steak sandwiches, and hoagies, plus fried sides.
For today’s meal, my little critic and I chose the cheeseburger sub ($5.75), grilled cheese ($4.50), and fresh cut fries ($2.50). We were not the only ones who had the idea of eating here for lunch as there was a steady line of hungry customers. A bonus during the wait as the students from Lebanon High performed a few songs from their musical to the patrons below. It made for a joyous time.
I think I can honestly say, this is the first time I have ever ordered a cheeseburger sub. Split patties nestled along side thick slices of tomato topped with lettuce and red onion came in a 9-inch roll. I got it with extra mayo. I moved the onion toward the bottom of the sandwich to make for easier eating.
The grilled cheese came on fresh slices of what appeared to be rye bread. The cheese itself was not melted whole way through. For today, it wasn’t much of an issue because our little critic was more interested in eating the fries.
The fresh cut fries were a standout today. They are freshly cut right there. They did not need any salt, ketchup, or ranch. The fries were greasy, but for me, I like them that way.
Our take: Buddy’s offers a simple menu with better than fair prices. It’s a quick easy lunchtime meal. The food is good with simple flavors. Buddy’s offers loaded fries on the menu as well and our recommendation is to grab some fries when you go.
