Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to another exciting series, the “Ice Cream Wars.” We will be traveling across the Valley to find the best in local ice cream.

The third stop on our journey sits on farmland under the shadow of the Lebanon VA. Patches Family Creamery is not just a creamery. It’s a destination. And our little critic loved every part of the it.

In addition to ice cream, they have a small market, playground, and farm animals with a petting area. They also have a drive thru for those that want a cool treat on the go.

For today’s offering, we chose the small Strawberry Sundae with bananas n’ cream ice cream ($3.75) and two scoops in a bowl, teaberry & blueberry cheesecake ($3.75).

Our first impression was the ice cream flavor was subtle. We like the flavor to be more pronounced. The teaberry was the only one in which we could taste the ice cream flavor. The strawberry sauce on the sundae was sweet and delicious. And it’s homemade, who wouldn’t love that?

The menu is scoops, shakes and sundaes. A simple menu and you can incorporate your flavor choices into any offering.

Our take: Patches is more than just ice cream. The extras make this stand out. Kids love the playground and the animals. They make their own ice cream which is lacking in strong flavor. The strawberry sauce on the sundae was sweet and yummy. A good dollar value for your cool treat. And the chocolate milk is very good.

We give this place ???.

How will they fare in the ice cream wars?
