Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to another exciting series, the “Ice Cream Wars.” We will be traveling across the Valley to find the best in local ice cream.

Ice Shack is an ice cream shop and BBQ Pit located off Route 422. We started off our night ordering dinner and were excited to enjoy some amazing BBQ. As we finished, we decided to make our way outside to enjoy our ice cream selections.

Ice Shack offers indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the counter and for food they bring it to your table. You pick up your ice cream treats at the window. They have a few options to enjoy, including hand dipped ice cream, soft serve, and water ice. We opted tonight for an Ice Shake, a combination of the water ice and soft serve in a milkshake. I chose the peach water ice. It was flavorful and had a good fresh peach taste.

The little critic loved this as well and was excited to share some of mommy critics! Daddy critic got a S’mores Shack Storm (like a Blizzard), which included chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbs, and marshmallow crème. The only downside on this one for this critic was that it would have been better with a chocolate swirl, as the chocolate chips tended to freeze and harden in the ice cream.

Our take: Ice Shack offers a wide variety of flavors of water ice, soft serve, and hand dipped ice creams. Their creations are reminiscent of some chains that serve similar treats. We liked the options for sizes as well after eating a good-sized meal inside. The staff is also friendly and helpful. Plan on waiting if you come on a weekend night in the summer because it will be busy.
