Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!
Welcome to another exciting series, the “Ice Cream Wars.” We will be traveling across the Valley to find the best in local ice cream.
As we continue our journey, we found ourselves out in a quintessential Lebanon County summertime locale. Typically opened from Memorial Day to Labor Day, The Jigger Shop offers ice cream creations and other sweet treats.

Tonight, our first dish was the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae, French vanilla ice cream over beignet doughnuts with strawberry topping, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries. Using the beignets as the “shortcake” was a nice touch. The few slivers of strawberries on top were the only things that distinguished it as a strawberry sundae. All the whipped cream on top covered the artful work of putting the creation together.
Our second dish was the Beignet Sundae, French vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate sauce, coffee essence, whipped cream and beignet doughnuts and powdered sugar. This sweet treat with counterbalancing flavors is a delicious treat. For me though, it gets too heavy on the whipped cream.
Our take: The Jigger Shop doesn’t make their own ice cream. They make their own creations. The creations are a mix of old fashioned and innovative. The girls making the treats are great at what they do. They like to pile high the whipped cream, if that’s your thing, you will love it.
